If you’re a creative person, have a lot of time on your hands and would like to take a stab at designing your own website, check out www.dontfeartheinternet.com. It gives you a basic intro in to html, web browsers and CSS. It would also be a great tool if you’re interested in being able to talk to your website developer about what you want and what you need. AND it’s written with humour.
Event organizer, having a party? Use icebreakertags.com to get the ball rolling. Attach these conversation-starters with a safety pin, and instead of red-eyeballed stares at your next 8am meeting, get off on the right foot.
Icebreakertags.com lets you generate your own icebreaktertag for your next meeting or get together. Type directly into the tag to add your name/twitter/prompt, add a question, customize it with your logo or any graphic of your choice, and hit print. It will then generate a printout with 10 tags on it. I think these would also make good placecards at a dinner party or wedding.

For all you DIY’ers about there – take a look at Anna White’s website full of free project plans and galleries. Shopping lists, cutting lists and videos included.
This little table is a simple project, elevated by function and funky colour.
Sometimes the most straight forward plans can be the most successful. Have a look at this high chair and this chair.

Let’s re-think this for a second. Cats like privacy. People don’t like litter boxes. Combine a Besta shelf and Besta Holmbo door, cut a hole in the middle vertical panel, to allow cats to climb into their hidden bathroom. These owners added contact paper to protect the shelves’ particle boards, but the whole project won’t take much more time than your standard IKEA assembly.
I can see making a wooden box, sinking in a planter about half way and adding a hinged door with a hole facing the wall. Or how about this classy white and black kitty with his ModKat?

Fabric and vinyl art at HOME! Download inkbloom’s designs, recolour them or coordinate with your project, add text to personalize and print on your inkjet. Cotton fabrics and vinyl are also available from them online. I’m thinking product tags, business cards, personalized pillows…

“….what is good taste and is it a quality worth noting in a person?… Taste is different than trend. Trend is current and fun. But taste shows you know what things mean, where they come from, why they exist, and what they represent. Very few young people have great taste – it takes too much wisdom. I once heard that wisdom doesn’t come with age, it comes with experience”.

I’m planning to take my rental walls from off-white to white this weekend. It was more difficult that I thought to find a white that wasn’t pink, blue or yellow. I think the fear with white paint is that it will create a cold, sterile effect which is why the dingy yellow-ish white usually prevails. White reflects colours from the contents of the room, and plays with light, creating a variety of coloured shadows as the natural light changes. By and large, of the real white-whites I’ve seen a lot of “cloud white”, “simply white” and “decorators white”, all from Benjamin Moore.
The winner so far is “simply white”, although I’m tempted by the name “cotton balls”. There is a phrase from a children’s book (which one?) that appeals to me for a room’s mood, “quieter than a cotton ball”. Full report to follow.

I was very excited to wake up to a message from Gloria at Hommu in Barcelona. The feedback from this post about their wall decals was overwhelmingly positive. Thanks for your news Gloria!
Hi, everybody!
First of all, thank you very much for your interest in Hommu.
We are very happy to know about people so far from Europe!
Unfortunately, we are not physically at Canadian stores yet. But you can buy our products online with total security!
Due to an increasing demand on our products from people living in america, we decided to negociate better conditions with UPS.
As a result, from now on, delivery to any american country has decreased considerably, which means that if you live in any of those countries, you can still buy Hommu online at www.hommu.com, but spending less money!
We suggest you that also could share costs with a friend who could be interested in a Hommu vinyl too… Is an idea!
However, we will work hard for being at Canadian stores in the future!
Kind regards from Barcelona!
Gloria

Last minute wrapping emergency? Got a few old magazines hanging around? Turn a magazine page into a bow! I love that you can choose a less traditional colour palette and turn an old idea into a new one.
Cut a magazine page lengthwise into 9 strips, 3/4″ wide.
Leave 3 of the strips full length.
Cut 1″ off 3 of the strips.
Cut 2″ inches off 2 of the strips.
Cut the last strip down to 3 1/2″.
Twist each strip to form a double loop and adhere it in the center. Shape the last, little short strip into a circle and secure it.
Place the 3 longest pieces on top of each other, spacing them evenly as you layer and securing as you go. I used a dab of glue stick and it worked like a charm. Add the next two groups of pieces in the same fashion. Final step, stick the loop into the center.
Use old maps, charts, paper bags… and get that wrapping finished! At least if the present’s not so hot, you can at least brag about making the bow.
